Rabat – Malaysia is expected to celebrate Eid Al Fitr 2023 on April 22, according to astronomical projections from the United Kingdom’s HM Nautical Almanac Office.

In a report, the observatory explains that the new moon will be visible to the naked eye on the night of Friday, April 21, making Saturday the day of Eid Al Fitr.

Eid Al Fitr is a religious holiday that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The religious event is celebrated by Muslim communities worldwide and is a national holiday in all majority-Muslim countries.

The exact day of Eid Al Fitr falls on a different date of the Gregorian calendar each year as Islamic holidays follow the lunar calendar. The day of Eid Al Fitr is only confirmed after the sighting of the moon the day before.

Charity and prayers are a staple to the celebration of Eid Al Fitr for Muslims. On the day of Eid, Muslims perform a special prayer in the early morning. Prayers are usually held outdoors to accommodate a large number of worshippers. The prayer is followed by a religious sermon called “khotba.”

Eid Al Fitr is also marked with a charitable act that requires Muslims to give money to those in need, a practice called “Zakat Al Fitr.” The amount varies depending on the financial capabilities of each household.
