Rabat – Morocco’s Atlas Lions Noussair Mazraoui, who also plays for Bayern Munich, intends to memorize the entire Quran, reflect on its meanings, and become an imam.

“I aspire to memorize the entire Quran and understand it afterwards. I aspire to share my knowledge with those who follow me, and eventually become an imam,” explained Mazraoui to the Dutch channel Minuut voor Allah.

Mazraoui also expressed, after the 2022 World Cup event in Qatar, his inclination to read the Quran and talked about his strong faith, affirming that life does not attract him more than religion does.

“I started reading the Quran 6 months ago… After the World Cup finals, I decided to memorize the Quran, and during prayer, I would read some of the surahs that I had memorized, because they were all that I knew. This made me feel ashamed, after that I decided to go ahead and memorize the Quran,” said Mazraoui to the channel.

During the same interview with the Dutch channel, Mazraoui recited “Surat Addoha” (chapter of the Glorious Morning Light).

The Moroccan player talked about how he performs Umrah rituals and how much the practice has affected him by making him feel closer to Allah while circumambulating the Kaaba.

“When I performed the Umrah, I felt as if I were out of this world,” he added.

Mazraoui’s teammate Zakaria Aboukhlal was once featured on the same channel; he had already memorized the Quran. To test his memorization, the interviewer started reciting random verses from the Quran for Aboukhlal to continue.

“Since a young [age], I always had the feeling to read the Quran and to spend time with it. But first I needed to learn to read Arabic, and that was a big step for me. I always used to delay it, but I had the feeling that told me to start with it. I think a lot of youngsters have that feeling. Finally I just started,” Aboukhlal told the channel.
