Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita has emphasized the country’s “firm and consistent” position regarding the Palestinian cause, reiterating Morocco’s full support of Palestine.
Bourita made the statement during the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which is taking place between March 16 and 17 in Nouakchott, Mauritanian, under the theme “Moderation: The Key to Security and Stability.”
The Moroccan FM said: “The Kingdom, in view of developments in the Palestinian territories, reaffirms the centrality of the just Palestinian cause and its firm and consistent position towards it.”
Bourita added that the Palestinian cause is among the priorities of Morocco’s foreign policy, as well as one of the main concerns of King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee.
In the wake of the developments taking place in the Palestinian territories, the Moroccan FM said that Morocco considers the Palestinian issue a “real challenge facing the joint Islamic action, which requires more intensified efforts to revive the peace process in the Middle East with the aim of achieving a fair and comprehensive settlement.”
For Bourita, this will only be possible by collectively adopting a realistic and pragmatic vision, which distances itself from political instrumentalization that would harm the Palestinian cause instead of serving it.

Bourita’s remarks come less than a week after Morocco’s Justice and Development Party (PJD) criticized him for supposedly defending Israel at regional and international meetings.
“The General Secretariat disapproves of the recent positions of the Foreign Minister who looked as if he was defending the Zionist entity in some African and European meetings, at a time where the Israeli occupation continues its criminal aggression on our Palestinian brothers, especially in Palestinian Nablus,” the PJD said in a statement.
Morocco’s Royal Cabinet later responded to the party’s remarks, describing them as “irresponsible excessive views and dangerous approximations.” It added that Morocco’s foreign policy is a “prerogative” of King Mohammed VI.
Following the Royal Cabinet’s response, the political party issued a communique denying interference with the King’s “constitutional powers,” and expressing their deep appreciation for the monarch’s “strategic” role in defending Morocco’s best interests.
