Rabat – As Saad Lamjarred’s trial unfolds, the Moroccan signer continues to maintain that he is innocent.
Lamjarred is facing charges of allegedly raping a 20-year-old French woman at a luxury hotel in Paris in October 2016 while he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine.
The singer continues to deny the allegations against him. However, if convicted, the 37-year-old faces up to 20 years in prison. The verdict will be ruled on Friday, according to reports.
The plaintiff accuses Lamjarred of beating her several times as she resisted his advances, according to court statements tweeted by French journalists attending the trial. Court statements further indicate that she was seen leaving the hotel crying and in a state of distress.
Lamjarred said in court that he rejects the allegations of aggravated rape and assault. He admitted, however, to “occasionally” using alcohol and drugs, adding that he has stopped since.
The plaintiff’s lawyer Jean-Marc Descoubes, told reporters on Monday that her client remains “strong,” despite her alleged traumatic incident. “It was extremely violent… It was very traumatic for her. She’s still being treated, but she remains strong, decent, and courageous.”
This is not the first time the singer is charged with aggravated rape. Lamjarred faced the same charge in August 2018 at a nightclub in Saint-Tropez, France. The date for the trial for this case is yet to be determined.
