Rabat – Morocco’s embassy in Ankara called on Moroccans to get in contact and provide information if they are looking for relatives that have potentially been caught in the earthquake.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the devastating earthquake that hit several locations in southern Turkiye on Monday.

An official statement reported  that the embassy “asks to be provided with the name and phone number of the caller, the name of the wanted person, their phone number and the city where they reside, as well as a copy of the national identity card, and passport of the person concerned, if available, by e-mail or via WhatsApp.”

The information will allow the crisis cell of the embassy to coordinate with Turkish authorities to try and locate the missing people.

The list of Turkish cities that were hit by earthquakes include Kahramanmaras, Adana, Adiyaman, Hatay, Sanlıurfa, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Kilis, and Osmaniye.

Morocco’s embassy included a reminder in the statement of its contact information through the following landline numbers: 00903124376020 and 00903124376021.

Moroccans can also seek assistance through the following phone and WhatsApp numbers: 00905346871318, 00905550372743, and 00905349205305, or through these email addresses: [email protected] and [email protected].

The death toll from the earthquake is estimated to have reached over 1,500 and counting with more than 9,500 injured, according to the Turkish government’s disaster management agency (AfAD).

Rescue missions are still ongoing to extract victims from the rubble.
