Rabat – Portal activities in Morocco dropped by a year-on-year rate of 4% at the end of November 2022, against the backdrop of a significant decline in the volume of Morocco’s phosphate exports.
According to a new report from Morocco’s National Portal Agency (ANP), the decline in portal activities is due mainly to the sharp decline in the volume of exports.
While the monetary value of exports increased significantly throughout 2022, the volume of phosphate exports dropped by 48% as the rise in value caused demand to drop.
Likewise, Morocco’s grain exports dropped by 11% at the end of November 2022, likely caused by the severe fall in agriculture yield amid the worst drought to grip the country in over three decades.
Detailing the volume of traffic by individual ports across Morocco, the ANP report shows that El Jadida’s Jorf Lasfar leads the way in portal activities nationwide as it accounted for 39% of the overall national portal traffic throughout 2022. The Casablanca port came in second place with 29% of overall traffic, followed by the Safi port with 10% of traffic.
The report further explains that exports accounted for 31% of the overall portal activities, while imports amounted to 64% of all portal activities at the end of November 2022.
