Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) announced today a new weather alert, forecasting heavy rainfall and snowfall on Thursday and Friday in several provinces across Morocco.
Heavy rainfall between 30 and 70 millimeters will affect the provinces of Chefchaouen, Taounate, Tetouan, Al Hoceima, Ouezzane, Sefrou, Ifrane, Taza, Khenifra, and Beni Mellal.
Rainfall ranging between 20 and 40 millimeters is also expected in the provinces of Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Tangier-Asilah, and Kenitra during the same period.
Winds between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour will meanwhile hit the Rif, the Saiss, the high and middle Atlas and the Oriental regions.
In addition to the windy and rainy weather, snowfall between 10-35 centimeters will also concern the provinces of Ifrane, Boulemanem Beni Mellal, Taza, Azilal, and Midelt from Thursday at 12 p.m. to Friday at 3 p.m.
Morocco has been witnessing a few weeks of rainy weather throughout the country, including in the Rabat region.
The recent waves of rainfall are set to help improve Morocco’s agriculture season following a dry season in the 2021-2022 season.
The increasingly rainy weather has “revived hopes” across Morocco, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Monday, stressing that the renewed waves of rainfall will help increase or stabilize the water reserves in the country’s dams.
Akhannouch noted that despite the heavy rains Morocco has witnessed over the past few days, the government plans to keep up its efforts to tackle water scarcity across the country.
“Our country has made important strides to establish a tight water policy,” he said.
