Rabat – Moroccan football fans poured in the thousands across Moroccan streets to celebrate the Atlas Lions’ win against Spain during the round of 16 match on Tuesday.

The Atlas Lions knocked out Spain through penalties after scoring three goals. Spain failed to score during its penalties kicks due to goalkeeper Yassine Bounou’s vigilance against Spanish football players’ strikes.

Morocco’s Atlas Lions’ win to reach the quarter-finals was certainly a festivity to be celebrated, with Moroccan fans doing the national team justice with their wild celebrations across the country tonight.

Pictures and videos showed the vibrant fans wrapped in Moroccan flags, while others climbed cars or anything that would allow them to wave the Moroccan flag from a height.

Some fans chose to celebrate the Atlas Lions by beeping car horns, while others were shouting Morocco through their windows and balconies to share their excitement.

Slogans were also shouted all over the streets, including “Ole, Ole, Ole Maghreb, Maghreb” (Morocco, Morocco) among other chants.

Morocco’s Atlas Lions gave the Moroccan fans another chance to celebrate one well-deserved victory tonight after spectacular performances throughout the competition.

Prior to the round of 16 match, Morocco finished the group stage unbeaten after two victories against Belgium and Canada and a goalless draw against Croatia.

Head coach Walid Regragui kept his promise and made Morocco taste the joy of moving to the quarter-finals for the first time in the country’s history.

“We want to win it … that’s for sure … we’ll do everything to win [against Spain],” Regragui said at the Atlas Lions’ pre-match conference in Qatar on Monday.
