Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita traveled on Monday to Saudi Arabia to meet his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan and discuss the relations between the two countries.

Bourita also delivered a letter from King Mohammed VI to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

While the content of the letter was not made available to the press, the meeting between the Moroccan and Saudi FMs was within the framework of cooperation between the two countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting served as an opportunity to review “the close cooperation relations”  between the two countries at all levels.

Saudi Arabia and Morocco share good diplomatic relations strengthened with trade and political dialogue.

The two countries aim to increase the volume of trade to $5 billion dollars in the next five years.

The current volume of trade between the two countries amounts to $1.7 billion.

Saudi Arabia is one of the Gulf countries that support Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over Western Sahara.

Last week on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia renewed its support for Morocco’s position during the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, Saudi permanent representative to the UN Abdulaziz Alwasil stressed that Morocco’s Autonomy Plan is “in line with the UN Charter, Security Council, and General Assembly resolutions.”

The official also emphasized the importance of “demonstrating wisdom, realism, and compromise between all the parties concerned to reach a settlement to the dispute capable of contributing to the achievement of peace and stability in the region.”
