Rabat – Controversial rapper Taha Fahssi, known by his stage name ElGrandeToto, or Toto is at the center of backlash again for expressing support for Moroccan influencer Fatiha, who was arrested on Saturday for posting explicit content on video-sharing serviceTikTok.
The influencer was arrested yesterday after posting a video on TikTok that contained what many called disturbing and explicit images. She is currently awaiting trial under the supervision of the public attorney’s office.
The rapper decided to show his support for the influencer by posting on Instagram a video where he raises a flag that says “Freedom for Fatiha.”
Last month, the Moroccan rapper sparked another controversy when he spoke positively about the use of cannabis for recreational purposes during a high-profile cultural event.
The Casablanca-born rapper went viral for saying on camera “We smoke weed, and so what?!”
“We don’t go very far to get weed, it’s just around the corner,” the rapper said at the festival, adding that weed-producing regions are only “300 kilometers away.”
“It is known worldwide that Morocco is the birthplace of weed, and people from all over the world come to Morocco to smoke weed,” he added.
His statement came during a continental cultural event that sought to promote Morocco’s capital as an incubator of culture and art, enraging many on social media who took offense at his statement, arguing that it reflects negatively on Morocco’s reputation.
