Rabat – As part of a new deal with Morocco’s trade and industry ministry, furniture manufacturing company Kitea commits to sourcing 38% of components locally, instead of relying on imports.

In line with Morocco’s strategy to decrease industrial imports and replace them with locally sourced components, the country’s Trade and Industry Minister, Ryad Mezzour, signed a deal with Kitea’s Chairperson and Founder Amine Benkirane on September 23 in Casablanca.

Through the deal, the group commits to increase its reliance on locally-sourced materials from 19% to 38%, according to an official statement from the Trade and Industry Ministry.

Under the new deal, Kitrea would actively work to identify components that could be sourced from local manufacturers under the supervision of the industry ministry as well as adapt internal policies to prioritize Moroccan-made products. The measure aims to strengthen the local industrial sourcing chain and support the “Made in Morocco” label, the statement adds.

To ensure smooth execution, Kitea and the industry ministry agreed to form a monitoring committee to oversee the progress on the implementation of the terms of the deal.

Kitea equally said it would work to double its exports of the “Made in Morocco” label, especially to other African countries.

Commenting on the deal, Mezzour said that increasing the share of locally-sourced products into the national manufacturing supply chain aims to “revive the industrial sectors and strengthen Morocco’s industrial sovereignty.”

“Today, we sign the third partnership agreement with a locomotive of the trade sector for the development of local sourcing “Made in Morocco” and the first with a specialized chain, a national leader in furniture and decoration,” the minister added.

Highlighting the significance of public-private partnerships, the minister said that the agreement is “the perfect translation of a winning and fruitful public/private partnership aimed at making “Made in Morocco” label a benchmark for good quality and competitiveness.”
