Rabat – Several Moroccan ministers face dismissal according to Jeune Afrique, which has reported about an upcoming cabinet shuffle at the request of King Mohammed VI.
According to the Francophone publication, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch had a “discreet meeting” with royal advisor and former Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) leader Fouad Ali Himma on August 5.
During the meeting, Morocco’s embattled prime minister was asked to change his cabinet before the end of the month, according to Jeune Afrique.
The news outlet points to two ministers of Akhannouch’s PAM party who face a potential sacking as part of the cabinet reshuffle. The two named ministers are the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Abdellatif Miraoui and the secretary general of the PAM party, Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi.
Political heads are rolling across the world, as angry citizens demand solutions to the ongoing global economic crisis around energy and food prices.
If Jeune Afrique’s reporting proves true, Morocco is set to become one of many countries reshuffling their cabinet amidst the current economic difficulties facing many countries. In July, both Britain and France announced a cabinet reshuffle, with Argentina announcing a change of its cabinet at the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida reshuffled his cabinet on August 10. Peru changed its cabinet after its prime minister resigned on August 3, less than a week after Yemen replaced its defense and oil ministers on July 28.
Egypt announced today, August 13, that President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi will replace 13 ministers.
