Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2022 in the UK is expected to take place on Monday, May 2.

This means Sunday will be the last day of Ramadan in the UK, many British news outlets have reported noting the day Muslims in Britain started Ramadan this year and citing prominent figures in the country’s Muslim community.

But the official date of Eid Al Fitr in the UK is yet to be confirmed over the weekend, when astronomers will investigate the crescent moon for Shawwal.

The first day of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, marks the end of Ramadan.

Data from 2017  shows that there are 2.8 million in the UK. According to the same data, Muslims account for 4.4% of the population in the UK.

Like in many other countries, this year’s Ramadan will last 30 days in the UK.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait are all expected to fast 30 days this year — all of these countries started Ramadan on April 2.

Other countries, however, will only fast for 29 days. Morocco began observing Ramadan on April 3, and astronomers expect the North African country to celebrate Eid Al Fitr to take place on May 2.

Like other Mulsim-majority countries, Morocco will investigate the crescent moon for Eid Al Fitr over the weekend.

Over two billion Muslims worldwide will observe Eid Al Fitr in the coming few days. Islam is the second-largest religion in the world, according to World Population Review.

Muslims celebrate Eid Al Fitr through morning prayers called Salat El Eid. Following the prayers, families gather for a morning breakfast during which different delicious sweets are served.

Families also exchange visits from the morning to the evening on the day of Eid Al Fitr.
