French daily newspaper L’Equipe on Tuesday shared estimates on the salaries of Ligue 1 Moroccan footballers, with Paris Saint-German star Achraf Hakimi taking a leading spot.
The sports newspaper revealed on March 22 its list of the highest-paid players in the French football league, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players dominating the top 14 spots, and Moroccan right-back Achraf Hakimi sixth position.
The 23-year old star tops Ligue 1 in terms of most-earning Moroccan players, pocketing a pay packet of €1,08 million (MAD 11.55 million) per month before tax.
Meanwhile, the Angers winger Soufiane Boufal is the second highest-paid Moroccan international to feature in the list, with a monthly wage of €150 thousand (MAD 1,6 million), gaining a slight advantage compared to Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd who earns €140 thousand (MAD 1,4 million) per month.

Other than being one of the favorite destinations of Moroccan footballers, the French league is one of the world’s top five leagues in terms of the staggering salaries paid by its clubs, especially with PSG whose players top L’Equipe’s list.
The French giants PSG includes three of the five highest-paid players worldwide. The Brazilian international and PSG superstar Neymar tops the league’s highest earners, making around €4 million (MAD 40 million) per month before tax. The seven-times Ballon D’Or winner Lionel Messi pockets around €3,3 million (MAD 35 million) every month. Meanwhile, superstar Kylian Mbappe generates a monthly salary of €2,2 million (MAD 23 Million) before tax.
The report, however, noted that against all odds Ligue 1 players’ salaries were not affected by the current ongoing COVID crisis, but rather increased during the past two years.
