Rabat – The rate of growth in Foreign Direct Investment in Morocco slightly declined in both Moroccan investments abroad and foreign investment in Morocco between 2021 and 2022.
The Department of Studies and Statistics in the Moroccan Exchange Office reports that the net flow of Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), investments directly made by foreigners outside of Morocco, registered a growth from MAD 618 million ($64.4 million) at the end of January 2021, and up to MAD 710 million($74 million) at the end of January 2022. Which is a growth of 14.9%.

The department released a graph detailing the net flow with regard to the FDI. The graph shows a slight decline in Moroccan investment abroad. In January 2021 the total expenditure was MAD 1.15 billion ($119.9 million), whereas in January 2022, it fell to MAD 986 million ($102.7 million). A decline of up to 14.8%.
By comparison, the graph also shows a slight decline in foreign investment in Morocco itself, from MAD 1,775 million ($185.20 million) in January 2021 down to MAD 1,696 million ($176.96 million) in January 2022, declining by 4.5%.
FDI income fell slightly by 4.5% at the end of January 2022, while expenditure fell by 14.8%.
Moroccan Direct Investment Abroad (MDIA) expenditure registered a decline by 30.6% from MAD 2.21 billion ($231.42 million) in 2021, all the way down to MAD 1.54 billion ($160.68 million).
On the other hand, the income from these investments was reported to be MAD 1.2 billion ($126.04 million) in January 2022, 64.6% more than what it was last year, when it was only MAD 734 million ($76.58 million).

Remittances, the transfers of funds made by Moroccans abroad, were reported at MAD 6.09 billion ($635.52 million) in January 2022, a decline of 9.7% from MAD 6.75 billion ($704.07 million) in January 2021.
Meanwhile, the balance of trade in services showed a decline of 37.7%. It was MAD 2.72 billion ($284.32 million) in 2022; while in 2021, it grew to MAD 4.37 billion ($456.16 million).
