Rabat – COVID-19 figures in Morocco continue to show a marked improvement with all Moroccan regions moving to the “green” alert level, meaning the transmission of COVID-19 is low.
Last week, six Moroccan regions (Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, Souss-Massa, Draa-Tafilalt, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, and the Oriental region) were listed at the “orange” alert level.
The Covid-19 alert system is divided into five levels: blue (normal), green (low alert), yellow (moderate alert), orange (high alert), and red (very high alert).
After spending two weeks at the “orange” level, the pandemic situation is “green” in all Moroccan regions with the latest figures confirming the decline of the spread of COVID-19 and a positivity rate of 1.18% to date.
On Sunday, February 27, Morocco recorded 142 cases and 8 deaths linked to COVID-19, marking a downward trend in comparison to the past couple of weeks.
Morocco is high on the international COVID resilience ranking, with France putting the North African country on its “green list,” a further indication that there is a negligible or moderate circulation of the virus and an absence of an emerging worrying variant.
Germany has also removed Morocco from its list of high-risk countries.
In a publication on LinkedIn, the coordinator of Morocco’s National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Dr. Mouad Merabet, commented on the epidemiological situation of COVID-19 in Morocco as of February 20.
“Our country is moving to the green level of SARS-CoV-2 transmission, and the Omicron wave is in pre-closure,” Merabet said.
He added, “The Omicron wave is not yet closed. Another week at the green level is necessary to remain in compliance with the rules for evaluating the level of transmission; also the few provinces in the ‘orange’ level will most likely move to green.”
In accordance with what Dr. Mouad Merabet stated, Morocco has spent another week at the “green” level, officially moving to the low alert level.
As of today, 67.3% of the population have received the first dose of the vaccine (24,842,826 million), 63.1% of the population are fully vaccinated (23,292,458 million), and 15.1% of the population received the vaccine booster (5,563,243 million).
