Denver – Morocco’s Canadian embassy announced Monday it would expand its diplomatic operations to a new consulate in Toronto starting Wednesday, November 3.
The new consulate will serve the interest of Moroccan nationals across Canada’s western provinces including Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon, the embassy said in a press release.
The consulate’s opening follows the directives of King Mohammed VI, and has been in planning since January 2020. The new consulate is part of the royal vision to “provide quality and proximity administrative services to Moroccan citizens residing abroad,” according to the embassy.
The introduction of the new consulate will allow the current consulate general in Montreal to focus its services on Canada’s eastern seaboard. The consulate general’s new area of service includes Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Labrador, and Quebec.
In its statement, the embassy noted that while the transition of services to the new consulate in Toronto was ongoing, services related to the National Identity Card (CNIE) and notarial services would continue at the consulate general in Montreal.
The new Toronto consulate will be located at 5001 Yonge Street, Suite 1515, North York M2N 6P6, Toronto, Ontario. Current hours for the diplomatic post will be from 9 AM to 3 PM local time beginning Wednesday.
The new consulate brings the number of Moroccan diplomatic representations in Canada to three. The North African country maintains its consulate general in Montreal, while its embassy is located in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city.
