Rabat – The Sale prefecture has reassured citizens that no human losses were recorded after the huge fire that broke out yesterday in the Es-Smara market in Sale, Rabat’s twin city.
Moroccan state media reported that civil protection, auxiliary forces, and local authorities teamed up to put out the fire less than three hours after it erupted.
The fire was brought under control at 1:30 a.m. after it broke out around 11 p.m. on Saturday night, the report noted.
All necessary logotical means were deployed, including 11 firefighting trucks, to contain the fire and save lives, local authorities said, adding that at least 60 stores were damaged in the fire while no casualties have been reported.
“A large part of the goods [sold on the market] were also saved thanks to the vigilance of traders and their cooperation with the civil protection services, the local, and security authorities,” the prefecture said in a statement.
Morocco World News received exclusive videos and photos from the incident site showing scary flames and smoke around the market.
Some of the videos depict market employees, ordinary Sale residents, and civil protection services teaming up to take out furniture, including beds and woody equipment, out of the burning stores.
