Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment and Transport said it has selected six ferries with laboratory screening equipment to ensure the success of exceptional maritime travel amid the COVID-19 crisis.

The laboratory equipment on board the ferries will enable health professionals to carry out COVID-19 screening tests to detect possible infection carriers among travelers.

The decision is part of a detailed procedure in line with Morocco’s move to reopen air and maritime borders for Moroccans, foreigners residing in Morocco, and their families since July 15.

The ministry explained that it authorized three ships out of six to operate maritime routes connecting the port of Genoa to the port of Tangier Med and the port of Séte to the ports of Tangier Med and Nador.

The department added that it strengthened fleet operations by adding a fourth ferry that the services of the Ministry of Health are in the process of equipping.

The ministry is also preparing two additional ferries to integrate them into the exceptional operation.

The statement invited passengers wishing to obtain detailed information on the trips programs to contact the concerned ferry companies directly. The hotline 4646 is also available for passengers wishing to inquire about the sea routes.

Passengers should be prepared to abide by all of the preventive measures imposed by public authorities in Morocco as well as in departure countries.

In addition to sea routes, Morocco’s government also launched a special flights program operated through Morocco’s national flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc, and Air Arabia Maroc.

The flights connect Morocco with several destinations made available for Moroccans and foreigners residing in Morocco, and their families. The flights connect Morocco with the Netherlands, France, Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Oman, Gabon, Canada, the US, Cote d’Ivoire, and Qatar, among others.
