Rabat – The case of “Hamza mon bb” or Hamza my baby has continued to dominate headlines in recent weeks, especially after police summoned Moroccan singer Dounia Batma for her alleged involvement in the case.

News reports said that the national judicial police in Marrakech transferred both Dounia Batma and her sister Ibtissam to the Public Prosecutor in Marrakech for further investigation on Monday, December 30.

The police summoned the singer and her sister last week for their alleged involvement in the case. However, they released the two women after a preliminary interview. Despite her release, police retained Dounia’s passport.

Dounia is not allowed to leave Moroccan territory before the end of the investigation. Police also seized her phone, currently subject to technical examinations to determine any links between the two sisters and the Hamza mon bb case.

Hamza mon bb is a set of social media accounts sharing inappropriate content about celebrities and public figures for the purposes of blackmail.

More about the case

The Hamza mon bb admins use Instagram and Snapchat to share videos and content about celebrities and citizens. The accounts have been active since 2016, stirring controversy on social media.

Security services intervened in the case after authorities started to receive dozens of lawsuits over alleged involvement in the case, suspects included  Soukaina Janah, a YouTuber known as Glamor, along with four other individuals, including Alaeddine Ben Zerouhe Mohamed Dahir, Adnane Ski, and Oussama Aazmi.

Mohamed El Madimi, head of the executive office of the National Center for Human Rights in Morocco spoke about the case with SATV, revealing shocking information about the suspects.

El Madimi said he was shocked to find his name among the list of victims dragged into the case.

“I saw my photos online with serious insults, but I did not know where these came from,”’ he said. He added that some of his colleagues told him about Snapchat. “I didn’t download it right away. I don’t have enemies, and I am not involved in politics.”

“The account also targeted members of the office where we work. We kept investigating who is behind the case and we filed a lawsuit on behalf of the whole center,” he explained.

Human trafficking, extortion, and blackmail

El Madini said that the center filed a complaint accompanied with names of several suspects active in a criminal network in the city of Marrakech.

The list of victims includes several people, including a woman named Leila from Agadir, a hotel manager in Agadir, as well as other people who received threats and insults.

El Madini said that such crimes have heavy consequences on victims, who were the subjects of blackmail, insults, and extortion. Some people have been also subject to human trafficking, he added.

Alaeddine Benzerhoune, one of the suspect involved in the case is facing charges of human trafficking, in addition to harassment and other accusations.

El Madini said that Benzerhoune pretended to be an employee. He was targeting employed women and promising marriage.

“Later, he takes photos of the women from their phone and they use them for blackmail. Then they confess that he is involved in the Hamza mon bb case,” El Madini said.

He added that the suspect forces the women to have sexual relations with him and films the encounters in order to blackmail them.

He explained that if the women fall pregnant, he brings them to Marrakech and forces them to undergo  an abortion. Abortion, when the mother’s life is not in danger, is illegal within Moroccan law.

El Madini said that four women have experienced such ill-treatment due to the Hamza mon bb case.

He also elaborated on the charges of human trafficking against Benzerhoune, saying that he uses the women for “human trafficking with people from the Gulf.”

El Madini, like Soukaina Glamor, believes that Dounia Batma and her sister are directly involved with the case.

“The enemies of Dounia are the ones who received threats, and all kinds of insults,” he said.

He said that the lawsuit they filed included both Batma and her sister as potential suspects.

He added that Dounia Batma said “I want to say hi to Hama mon bb” in a public video.

“How can someone greet people that are anonymous and involved in crimes like that?” he asked.

El Madimi that Soukaina Janah, or Glamor confessed that Dounia Batma and Ibtissam, and lifestyle influencer Aicha Ayach are financing the account.
