Rabat, February 16, 2012 (MAP)

The implementation of Maghrebian agreements is likely to turn the countries of the region into an integrated economic power, Moroccan Foreign Minister Saad Dine El Otmani said on Thursday.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the weekly cabinet meeting, El Otmani underlined that the meeting of foreign ministers of the five countries making the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), scheduled Friday in Rabat, will come up with a series of decisions to carry out provisions already adopted.

The meeting is also an occasion to prepare for the upcoming Maghrebian summit to be held in the coming months in Tunisia, he added.

It is a basic stage to revitalize the AMU by enabling it to play a more important role in the region, mainly at a time of economic stagnation, he noted.

The meeting will examine means and mechanisms that would re-launch the AMU’s new dynamic and take advantage of the visits by Maghrebian foreign ministers who affirmed their will to spur the grouping’s socio-economic integration.
