Rabat – Morocco midfielder Azzedine Ounahi praised the team’s unity and thanked the Moroccan fans after the Atlas Lions beat Canada 3-0 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The midfielder described the victory as an important step in Morocco’s World Cup journey and said the celebrations of the supporters give the players extra motivation.

“I thank His Majesty the King of Morocco and his vision, without which Moroccan football wouldn’t have gone this far. I want to thank the Moroccan people. I receive all their messages and videos. Tears come to my eyes when I see them going out of the stadium: elderly people, young kids, and women. Everyone watches football, and everyone is happy. We know that football is a big thing for the Moroccan people. The love you all give us, we want to return on the pitch. We are all together, and we will achieve the best things.”

Ounahi admitted that Canada made life difficult for Morocco, especially during the opening half.

“It was a tough match. We were against a team that caused us problems, especially in the first half of the match. But thanks to God, we were able to find solutions, and we saw that the players who came on as substitutes also made the difference.”

The midfielder said every player in the squad has an important role, whether they start the match or come off the bench.

“I am so proud of this group. There are guys who start the match, and there are others who come on and add a lot to the game.”

He also stressed that Morocco’s success comes from the entire squad, not just the players on the field.

“We are not only 11 players on the pitch. We are a group of 26 players, and everyone works for one goal.”

Ounahi said the clean-sheet victory over Canada is “an important and valuable result” in Morocco’s World Cup campaign, but insisted the team must stay focused on the matches ahead.

He ended by saying the greatest reward is seeing Moroccan supporters celebrate together.

“Thanks to God, we are happy, and we will be happy seeing our people go home happy.”
