According to the Algerian newspaper Al-Shuruq, King Mohamed VI has granted a villa of his own property in the city of Saidia in the North of Morocco to one of the most famous Algerian singers in the Arab world and across many continents, Cheb Khaled.
This gift shows the King’s appreciation to Cheb Khaled’s music and the King’s interest in Art and Maghrebian artists in general. This gift, according to the same source, also signifies the king’s passion for Rai music in particular, which is believed to be one of his favourite genres of music. This has been stated by King Mohamed VI himself in some of his interviews given to the international press.
According to Al-Shuruq, Cheb Khaled has a special place in Mohamed VI’s heart as many other Algerian Rai stars who come to Morocco in the summer festivals and are paid generous amounts of money for their performances.
Cheb Khaled is due to perform this year at the 11th edition of Mawazin Festival to be held between 18 and 26 May in Rabat.
