Mawt lil Baye’/Death for Sale, a Moroccan film by Faouzi Bensaidi won the Best Feature Film grand award at the 18th edition of Tétouan’s Mediterranian Film Festival which was held on March 24-31.

The jury of the festival gave their special award “Mohamed Rekkab Award” for Best Long Film to the Serbian film The Enemy by Dejan Ze?evi?. The award of First Work (Azz Din Mdouar Award for First Film) was given to the Italian film I Am Here by Andrea Sekri while the Audience Award was afforded to the Moroccan film Ayadi Khashina/Rough Hands by Mohamed al-Assli.

The Moroccan actress Houda Rihani won Best Actress Award for her role in the Moroccan film Ayadi Khashina/Rough Hands along with the Croatian actor Rade Šerbedžija for his role in the Italian film I am here.

In the category of short films, the short film Mkhebi f Qubba/ Hidden in a Dome by Laila Abouzid won Best Short Film Award. The Jury’s Award was given to Apple Tack by Anka Mirona Lasaricko while Creativity Award was granted to On the Road to Heaven.

As part of the official competition, the film Ardi/My Land by Nabil Ayouch won the Grand Award of the City, the Jury’s Award was given to There is No Murmur under the Fire by the Spanish director David Sigara and the First Work award was given to Fallaqa by the Tunisiam director Rafiq Al-Amrani.

The closing ceremony of the festival was taken as an opportunity to honor Mediterranean actors and directors for their great contributions in the field of cinema, such as the Egyptian actor Karim Abdelaziz, the Tunisian actor Hicham Rustom, the Moroccan actor Mohammed Majd, the French actress Sandrine Bonnaire, the Spanish director Icíar Bollaín, the Moroccan director Mohamed Ismail, and the Italian director Daniel Lochete.

The jury of the festival official competition included the American director Peter Scarlet on the head of Feature Film category, the Moroccan director Nour Eddine Lakhmari on the head of Short Films category, the Spanish director and producer Antonio Delcado on the head of Documentary Film category.

This year’s edition of the festival provided a special screening of the films competing in each category, in addition to other films that were out of the competition. The festival also celebrated Syrian cinema and witnessed various events ranging from round-table discussions, meetings, and seminars on topics like “Cinema and Digitization” and “Harbingers of Spring in Arab Cinema”.
