Morocco called on the Vatican to abstain from signing any agreement that may confer legitimacy to Israel’s occupation of East Al Quds.
Given the spiritual aspect of the sacred city both for Muslims and Christians, such an agreement would “represent a concession to occupation, a violation of international law and a serious precedent,” Morocco’s foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Kingdom of Morocco, whose Sovereign chairs the Al Quds Committee, an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), “learned with deep concern about reports on the possibility of the signing of an agreement between the Vatican and Israel relating to church property legal and financial issues,” the same source said.
Morocco also called for “all parties to respect international resolutions that stress the need to preserving the character and legal status of the city of Al Quds.”
The Kingdom also called for considering as null and void the measures that attempt at altering the identity and current status of the holy city.
