In response to the call of “tank top” movement, Moroccan female activists are organizing a protest on Saturday 7 July in “Al Hadiqa Alarabia” in Casablanca at four o’clock to stand for what they call “defense of individual freedoms.”
The movement calls every female participant to wear a tank top during the protest. According to the movement, the protest is an act of solidarity with a girl who was attacked by some “extremists” in Rabat for walking out with a tank top.
The idea of organizing the stance was concocted in a debate on a facebook group, bearing the name “Débardeur w Bikhir”, meaning proud of wearing a tank top.
The “tank top” movement announced in a statement on their facebook group, “Débardeur w Bekhir”, that “we will not succumb to this violence and will uphold our freedoms and individual responsible choices”. Adding that, we “will not fear extremist violence, and call on the government to intervene to protect our rights”.
The statement added that in recent times, there have been movements and statements targeting peaceful coexistence between citizens, irrespective of their convictions, trying to subdue everyone, especially women, to custody of radical convictions, encouraging hatred and incite and giving legitimacy to the assault on women and the targeting of freedoms of the individuals.
This feminist event is open to all supporters of “individual liberties”, as announced in a statement on “Débardeur w Bekhir.”
