It seems that the days of Eric Gerets at the helm of the Moroccan national team are numbered and that the football federation is ready to turn this disastrous page in Morocco’s football history.
According to the news website Hespress, immediately after the end of the game against Mozambique on Sunday, Eric Gerets entered the dressing room, bid farewell to the players of the Moroccan team, went to the airport and took a plane to Belgium.
The Belgium coach is considered by most Moroccans as the worst national coach in Morocco’s history. After a series of disappointing results with the Moroccan National team and his notorious inability to build a resilient and competitive group, a group of Moroccans launched a petition demanding the dismissal of Eric Gerets from his post as coach of the Atlas Lions.
The latest in the series of disappointing results came this weekend when the Moroccan team played against Mozambique and lost 2-0.
Moroccan fans were appalled by the poor performance of the players, as well as by the choices made by Eric Gerets and his lack of vision.
Since he took over as the coach of the national team A, the “Atlas Lions” played 19 games; they lost eight games (Algeria, Senegal, Guinea, Gabon, Tunisia, Ouganda, Cameroun, Mozambique), won 6 games (Niger twice, Algeria, Tanzania twice, and Senegal) and draw in five games (Northern Island, Central Africa twice, Gambia, Ivory Coast).
After two years at the helm of the Moroccan team, Eric Gerets did not succeed in putting together a stable team. Every game he changes his lineup and persists in relying on some players who proved not to be suited for the national team.
