Cairo, December 6, 2012 (MAP)

Moroccan film ‘The Miscreants’ by Mouhcine Besri won the Najib Mahfoud award for best Arab film at the 35th Cairo International film Festival, which ended Thursday.

Announcing the award to the press, Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdelaziz, president of the jury of the Arab films competition, said that “The Miscreants” was awarded for its high artistic value and its message which calls for dialogue, co-existence, and acceptance of the other.

Moroccan director Mohcine Besri told MAP news agency he was “delighted to be given this award at this festival,” expressing wish to see his film succeed in Moroccan movie theatres.

“The Miscreants”, which is Besri’s first film, tells the story of three young extremists who kidnapped a group of young comedians.

The Cairo International Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Cairo, Egypt. It was established in 1976 and was the first international film festival held in the Arab world.
