Senegalese president, Macky Sall, has renewed “the firm and constant support of his country to the Sahara as Moroccan territory” and stressed that the Moroccan initiative to grant a large autonomy to the Sahara is “the appropriate solution for a final settlement of this conflict”.
In a joint communiqué published on Tuesday at the end of the official visit paid by King Mohammed VI to Senegal, the sovereign and the Senegalese president underlined that the persistence of the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara is a “potential threat for the territorial integrity and safety of the region’s countries and a serious obstacle to the regional integration process meeting the aspirations of the African people”.
“His Excellency Mr Macky Sall has, on the same occasion, reaffirmed the extreme importance that he grants to Morocco within the African union large family of and pledged to endeavor to this end”, says the official communiqué.
King Mohammed VI paid an official visit to Senegal, first leg of an African tour that also includes Côte d’Ivoire and Gabon.
