Washington- Another case of prostitution comes once again to remind Moroccans of one of the plagues of Moroccan society.

According to Saturday’s issue of the Moroccan daily newspaper Al Ahdat Almaghribiya, a female professional working at the Ministry of Agriculture was arrested on Friday on charges of leading a network of “upscale” prostitution in the affluent neighborhoods of Rabat, Morocco’s capital.

According to the same source, the woman, aged 50 and unmarried, was apprehended by the police after receiving a number of complaints from neighbors of the villas where she allegedly operated her business.

The woman called “Hajja Kenza,” allegedly owned a number of villas in Hay Ryad, one of Rabat’s  the most affluent neighborhoods, which she used to rent to customers from Gulf countries for up to 3,000 dirhams per day ($370).

Also according to the daily newspaper Assbah, police authorities in Rabat arrested five people earlier this week, who are accused of being involved in a similar prostitution network. Among those arrested are two Kuwaiti nationals and one Libyan.

This is the third prostitution scandal in less than 3 weeks—the most recent in near Casablanca after the Moroccan police arrested three male Gulf nationals and two Moroccan women on prostitution charges.

The arrest came after complaints from neighbors who suspected  possible illegal activity at a villa that was rented to “tourists” from Gulf and Arab countries.

Due to the lenience shown by the Moroccan authorities, the country has become a hot spot for “sex tourism.” Foreigners from all over the world, especially from Europe and some Gulf countries, come to Morocco for its infamous prostitution industry.
