TRIPOLI- Violence erupted when militiamen from Misrata tried to storm an eastern Tripoli district to revenge the death of their commander.
Violent clashes erupted between militiamen and Libyan forces in capital Tripoli late Thursday, killing one person and wounding 11 others.
The violence erupted when militiamen from the western city of Misrata tried to storm the eastern Suq al-Juma district of Tripoli to revenge the death of their commander.
According to Anadolu Agency, pick-up trucks mounted with anti-aircraft guns opened fire in an attempt to storm the area.
Hundreds of armed men took their positions and closed roads in an attempt to prevent militiamen from storming the area.
Blasts were heard in several areas across the capital.
One person was killed when he was caught in the fighting which wounded at least 11 militiamen.
Libyans have been struggling to restore order to their country since the death two years ago of longstanding strongman Muammar Gaddafi.
In July, Libya’s parliament entrusted the Operations Room of Libya’s Revolutionaries with “securing” the capital, allocating 900 million dinars (roughly $7.6 million) for the group’s budget.
