Paul McCarthy was looking for an inexpensive prosthetic hand yet functional to his son Leon who was born without fingers on his left hand. Two years ago, Paul began an Internet search and found a video about the prosthetic hand, which can be made by the 3D printer, based on a design by Washington state inventor Ivan Owen. The most important part of this prosthetic hand is that it did not cost him too much. Paul spent about 2,000$ on the printer, and only 10$ on materials, which is much less than the tens of thousands a prosthesis would cost.
