Agadir, Morocco – Algerian government-sponsored newspaper Shurooq said that Cheb Khaled, who recently obtained the Moroccan citizenship by royal decree, has not been residing in Morocco, but in Luxembourg instead.
They also rebutted the news of Khaled fleeing Morocco following alleged harassment and threats of harming his daughters by Algerian intelligence, and said that it was merely an apocryphal news circulated by Moroccan newspapers.
Shurooq newspaper emphasized that Cheb Khaled has been and still is living in Luxembourg, and that he has not chosen to settle down in Morocco. Close friends of Cheb Khaled have reportedly informed Shurooq that Khaled has been choosing silence regarding his standpoint on the buzz created since he became a Moroccan citizen.
It is worth noting that many sources have confirmed the fury and boycott of Wahran’s residents to the king of Rai, who considered his citizenship as treason to his Algerian roots, and were repulsed that he could invest his money in Morocco instead of his original country.
The question that raises itself is, would the opposing Algerians make all this socio-political fuss if the music sensation obtained any other citizenship?
Would you get angry if a Moroccan singer acquired the Algerian citizenship? Share with us; We’d love to read your opinion in comments section.
