Morocco to Launch New Institute for Its Nascent Aeronautics Industry

Rabat – Morocco will be home to a new training institute in the aeronautics industry.

Its purpose is to sustain production quality and enhance the country’s competitiveness in this fast growing industry.

The new institute will offer vocational training to Moroccan students seeking opportunities in aerospace engineering. It will also add value to the already existing Institut des métiers de l’aéronautique (IMA), which was launched four years ago.

According to Challenge.ma, the project outline for the new mid-sized institute is being negotiated between the Moroccan government and the Groupement Des Industriels Marocains Aéronautique Et Spatial (GIMAS).

This new project comes as a culmination of the positive momentum built in Morocco intended to open doors to new foreign direct investment in the aerospace industry.

This institute will offer students the advanced skills needed to lift Morocco’s manufacturing capacities. It will also serve as an essential platform for highly qualified graduates and attract more aerospace giants, laying the foundation for this nascent industry.

According to the same source, Canada’s aerospace giant Bombardier Inc. is preparing to launch the expansion project of its Casablanca facility by the end of this year. The permanent facility, located in Midparc Casablanca Free Zone, in Nouaceur, started its operations in January 2013.

Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, Chairman of the Moroccan Space and Aeronautical Industries Group (GIMAS), announced the news yesterday at the International Business Convention for the Aerospace Industry which took place October 6-7 in Casablanca.

The two-day meetings are a platform for aerospace companies and stakeholders to meet, discuss and explore business opportunities in the industry.

With the participation of over 250 companies from 15 different countries, including Boeing, Safran, Bombardier, Stelia, the event stands as an invaluable opportunity to establish potential partnerships and explore business and investment opportunities. “This focused event will help [participants] save a tremendous amount of time and meet relevant contacts in just 2 days,” Aerospace Meetings Casablanca said on their website.
