New York – American TV channel CNN said in a report on Thursday that Morocco played a central role in helping French authorities locate the two terrorist that were killed on Wednesday in Saint Denis, near Paris.
One of the terrorist killed was Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the alleged mastermind of the Paris carnage, which killed at least 129 people last Friday.
”Morocco’s intelligence agency alerted French authorities that Abaaoud was in France, a source close to the investigation said,” CNN said.
“The information was relayed after last Friday’s carnage, according to the source. Earlier, Cazeneuve said his country learned only Monday that Abaaoud was France,” it added.
Earlier on Thursday, French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said a non-European country had helped French intelligence services corner Abdelhamid Abaaaoud and another terrorist.
In a tacit reference to Morocco, the French official said that ““It was only on November 16, after the attacks in Paris, that the Intelligence Services of country outside Europe reported that it was aware of his presence in Greece.”
