Rabat – Moroccan police officers arrested on Monday two FEMEN activists before they took off their clothes in front of the court in Beni Mellal.

The undercover police officers acted on time before the activists pose topless in front of the court in order to protest the gay rights.

According to informed sources, the FEMEN activists, who were identified as French nationals, attempted to protest the trial of the homosexual couple abused in mob attack in Beni Mellal in February.

“While around 100 people were demonstrating in support of the homophobic aggressors, Femen was there to condemn state homophobia in Morocco,” FEMEN said in a statement.

According to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), the local authorities decided to deport the two women protesters, for attempting to “damage public morals.”

Last year, two activists from feminist movement Femen protested in support of gay rights in Morocco by kissing each other topless in front of the Hassan Tower in Rabat.

Article 489 of the Moroccan Criminal Code criminalizes “licentious acts against nature with an individual of the same sex.” Under the Article, sexual acts between people of the same gender are punishable by from six months to three years in prison.
