Casablanca – Morocco’s National Office of Mines and Hydrocarbons (ONHYM) has officially denied allegations that it had made an offer to purchase the SAMIR refinery.
ONHYM has confirmed that it had no intention of purchasing the SAMIR, which is in the process of liquidating and actively looking for a buyer.
In a communiqué shared with L’Economiste, the ONHYM stated that “following the circulation of articles relaying unfounded information about the secret negotiations between ONHYM and the AKWA group with the intention of acquiring the SAMIR refinery, ONHYM refutes these allegations.”
On Friday, November 25, Afriquia also released a statement refuting the same allegations that it had intended to purchase the SAMIR.
On June 1, the Court of Commerce of Casablanca announced that the Samir refinery would be liquidating after shareholders filed a claim with the court about company mismanagement.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan economy could suffer quite a bit if the failure of the SAMIR refinery were to persist without a buyer.
