Berlin – At least 12 people have been killed after a lorry plowed into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin.
Around 50 people have been injured, according to police, which say early indications point to it being an attack.
The driver of the truck is reportedly on the run.
According to German media, local police announced the arrest of a man near the scene of the attack, but they did not confirm whether the man arrested was the driver of the truck. Police have so far released no details about the identity of the man arrested.
The lorry had a polish license, according to German police, which found a man dead inside the truck and confirmed that he was a Polish citizen.
American president-elect Donald Trump called it a “horrifying terror attack”, and blamed “Isis and other Islamist terrorists [who] continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship.”
