Rabat – There is a possibility that Saad Lamjarred might not attend his trial, set for April 11, due to unrest that occurred in the Fleury-Mérogis prison, where the Lamjared is being detained, according to a statement issued by his lawyer on Monday.
Saad Lamjared’s lawyer, Yeric Débonne Moretti, arrived for the trial of his client, who is charged with the rape a French girl. He refused to make any statements to the press before the session ended.
Events became complicated when, the day before Lamjarred’s hearing was set to take place, six guards were attacked within the prison, resulting in heated strikes and more than 350 guards occupying the prison. As a result, Lamjarred may or may not be allowed out of the prison to attend his hearing.
The Moroccan singer has been imprisoned in Fleury-Mérogis since October 28, 2016. He is being held and tried in France on charges of “aggravated rape” and “aggravated voluntary violence.”
Meanwhile, many Moroccan artists have publicized their support for him, including Mohammed Reda, Mohammed Nabal and Donia Batma, who took to her Facebook page and wrote: “May God be at your side Saad, and may he bring you back to your loved ones as soon as tomorrow.”
