Rabat – The National Ports Agency (ANP) will launch the construction of a new multipurpose terminal at the commercial port in Agadir, using an investment of MAD 356.6 million.

The new terminal is expected to be completed by 2019 and will contribute to economic and social development at both local and regional levels, benefitting all stakeholders.

In order to meet the requirements of incoming bulk carriers, shipping containers, cruise ships and other merchandise vessels, the new port will be equipped with five cranes of small capacity, four cranes of big capacity and a cold storage system.

The port sector in Morocco is one of the country’s most important industries, and Agadir port is already considered a key port, thanks to its contribution to the development of the Souss-Massa-Daraa region and the national economy.

The port is currently enjoying an impressive growth in the number of imports, including bulk cargo, so the new project will strengthen this as well as deepening business ties and improving both infrastructure and infrastructure-related services nationwide.

Agadir port connects to Essaouira by main road number eight and to Marrakech by road number 40.

Despite the fishing-only past of Agadir port, it has gradually become a multi purpose complex, tailoring to both fishing and commercial needs as well as containing a port for leisure boats with a marina.
