Rabat – The international exchange program Next Level is currently running workshops to foster cross-cultural creative exchange at Meknes’ Urban Culture International Festival and the Casablanca Boulevard festival, September 7 to 21.

Bringing together five international hip-hop artists, this artistic collaboration aims “to promote interculturality, social engagement, and entrepreneurial spirit within underserved communities, especially among young audiences,” according to the event’s press release.

Two free public performances will be held as part of this event, in Meknes’ French Institute on Sept. 14 and in Casablanca’s Dar America on Sept. 20.

Intending to engage youth in areas with little access to American hip-hop musicians, break-dancer Edson Magana, producer Klevah, DJ Zephyr Ann Doles, spoken word poet MC Kane Smego, and the hip-hop artist and songwriter Konshens the MC are leading interactive performances as well as conducting workshops with local musicians.

This unique arts-based exchange exploring and addressing conflict resolution strategies is sponsored by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Music Department in University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Meridian International Center.

For this exchange program, up to 20 American MCs, DJs, beat makers, and hip-hop dancers are being sent in teams of five to lead four- to six-week exchange programs in various countries. The artists conduct public concerts, demonstrations, workshops, master classes, and jam sessions with diverse audiences, which are intended to support the professional development of artists in underserved communities.
