Rabat – Fourteen top officials in seven Moroccan ministries have been sacked, including five secretary generals from Saad Eddine El Othmani’s government coalition.
King Mohammed VI’s promise “political earthquake” is still ongoing. Following the sacking of four ministers for their delayed implementation of socio-economic development projects in the north, another round of dismissals has reportedly been made under royal orders.
Five secretary generals were sacked, including Abdelouahed Fikrat, the current Secretary General of El Othmani, according to Moroccan news outlet Telquel.
The list of the top officials who were also sacked include: Nadia Roudies, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism; Fatna Chihab, Secretary General of the Ministry of Housing; Youssef Belkassmi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Education; Abdelali Alaoui Belghiti, Secretary General of the Ministry of Health; Abdellatif Ait Laamiri, Secretary General of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; and Rouh Al Islam Chimi, the Ministry of Sports’ budget director. The news was confirmed by a government source speaking to Telquel.
According to the magazine, several other officials, whose names are still unknown, were also sacked. Morocco’s official news agency, Maghreb Arab Press, has not yet confirmed the news.
On October 24, the monarch received a report on the conclusions of the Court of Auditors regarding the Al Hoceima projects dubbed “Manarat Al Moutawassit.”
The report revealed imbalances and “serious dysfunctions” that led to several dismissals in the government of Saad Eddine El Othmani, though the problems date back to the tenure of the previous government led by Abdelilah Benkirane.
Among the officials who were sacked in the first round of dismissals: Mohammed Hassad, Minister of National Education and former Minister of the Interior, El Houssaine El Ouardi, Minister of Health, and Mohamed Nabil Benabdellah, Minister of Housing.
