Rabat – After his great performance against Al Ahly of Egypt, Casablanca Wydad forward Achraf Bencharki is expected to take part in the decisive Morocco-Ivory Coast game in Abidjan.
Bencharki’s performance during the CAF Champions League final game has made the headlines in both Moroccan and international media.
The footballer helped his team to net a fabulous goal against the Egyptian opponent on November 4. During the game, Bencharki sent an assist to Oualid El Karti, who scored the the winning goal for Wydad of Casablanca at the 69-minute mark.
Herve Renard, Morocco’s football team coach, will be looking to see if Bencharki will play as well as he did for Wydad in the must-win game against Ivory Coast.
In an interview with Moroccan TV channel Medi 1 TV, Bencharki said that the game against the Ivorian Elephants “would not be easy, as we all know. But we are one point ahead the Ivorian team,” adding that the Moroccan team needs only a one point in order to qualify for Russia 2018.
The 23-year-old rising star said that “[his team] knows that the Ivorian squad will play in his field, but we are determined to achieve a positive result in this decisive game in order to qualify and make the Moroccan fans happy.”
For Bencharki, fans plays an important part in the team’s success. “Fans give us support and power in order for us to play a good match.”
The youngster also vowed his determination to play a good match against Ivory Coast in order to “not disappoint the Moroccan fans and return home with a positive result.”
