Morocco Commemorates Sultan Mohammed V’s ‘Historic Visits’ to Tangier and Tetouan

Rabat – The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will pay tribute to the late King Mohammed V for his support of Moroccan Jewish community and his refusal to hand them over to the Nazi-supporting Vichy France occupiers.

Prince Moulay Rachid received the director of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Sara J. Bloomfied, late October in Rabat, where she invited the prince to attend a ceremony in Washington to honor his grandfather.

The two highlighted the exemplary nature of the policy of openness, listening, and promotion of the spiritual and cultural diversity of the kingdom implemented by King Mohammed VI.

Their meeting took place in the presence of executive director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Robert Satloff, director of the Initiative on Holocaust Denial and anti-Semitism at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Tad Stahnke, and the King‘s advisor, André Azoulay.

According to a museum statement, the Prince accepted Bloomfield’s proposal to “work together to bring the lessons of the past to address the problems of the present and to make a better tomorrow.”

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is one of the most prestigious US federal organizations and one of the few civil society institutions whose governing bodies are appointed by the US president.

Since 2007, the museum has enjoyed an archival exchange agreement with Morocco’s National Library.
