Rabat – An Israeli man died after two buses crushed him in Casablanca on Friday, November 29, reported Israeli media.
According to reports, the man was crossing a street in front of the hotel where he stayed when a bus suddenly accelerated and hit him.
The victim was identified as 41-year-old David Levy. Levy, who served as a rabbi, had come to Casablanca with a group of Israelis for a memorial ceremony.
The incident injured a second Israeli man, but emergency services intervened quickly and carried him to a hospital.
Israeli media speculated that the tragic incident may have been due to anti-semitic feelings. “People shouted that it was a terrorist attack. It was a big panic, and it didn’t look like a car accident,” an Israeli bystander told Israeli Channel 12.
Police arrested two bus drivers for investigation and haven’t determined the nature of the incident yet. The driver, however, explained that he hit the gas pedal by mistake and that it was an “unfortunate accident.”
Moroccan authorities are yet to comment on the incident and address speculations.
