Rabat – France’s government appointed 11 new secretaries of state on July 26, including French-Moroccan Sarah El Hairy, who will be in charge of Youth and Engagement.
The appointment follows the recommendations of Prime Minister Jean Castex to President Emmanuel Macron regarding reforming the composition of France’s government.
Sarah El Hairy was born in 1989 in Romorantin-Lanthenay, central France, to a French-Moroccan couple. Although she grew up in Metz, the young politician earned her baccalaureate certificate in Casablanca.
In 2014 El Hairy joined the Democratic Movement (MoDem) political party in the region of Pays de la Loire. She joined the National Assembly in 2017 and became the party’s spokesperson in 2018.
Sarah El Hairy became municipal councilor in France’s northwestern city of Nantes on June 28, one month before her most recent appointment.

The 31-year-old secretary of state expressed her honor in claiming the trust of the French president and prime minister. “Youth is the future of our country,” the official wrote in a Facebook post regarding her new position.
The appointment of El Hairy and 10 other secretaries of state comes three weeks after the reshuffle of the French government by President Macron.
The new French executive government includes 16 ministers, 14 deputy ministers, and a total of 12 secretaries of state, making a total of 42 members.
The reform saw the appointment of Castex as prime minister on July 3, after Edouard Philippe announced his resignation.
Macron’s reshuffle strategy seeks to focus on reviving the country’s economy, which was ravaged by the COVID-19 crisis.
President Macron, who is facing a re-election campaign in 2022, said in an interview on July 2 that he is looking forward to a “new path” to shape his country for the two remaining years in his term.
