Rabat – Aguila Saleh Issa, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, has emphasized that his country will always need Morocco’s support to achieve security and stability.

He said Morocco played a key role in the formation of a single, executive authority consisting of a presidential council and a government of national unity that is now operational.

“We are waiting for the upcoming election, which has been set for December 24, 2021,” he added.

The Libyan official emphasized that his country suffered “a lot of division, especially during the previous state,” adding that Libya is undoubtedly “part of [the international community] and needs to cooperate with countries.”

Aguila Saleh also renewed his gratitude for Morocco’s support for Libya and its continued  role in the political process to  end the country’s decade-long instability.

“This visit, which comes at the kind invitation of Habib El Malki [Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives] is an occasion to emphasize the depth and strength of the brotherly relations that bind the two brotherly peoples.”

He noted that the visit also reflects the continuous communication between the Libyan House of Representatives and its Moroccan counterparts to study issues of common interest.

El Malki echoed Aquila Saleh’s remarks, stating that the Libyan delegation’s visit to Morocco will help deepen the inter-Libyan dialogue without any external interference.

El Malki also lauded Saleh’s own personal efforts in suceeding to establish the Libyan House of Representatives as an essential and reliable force in the continuation of efforts to end the crisis in Libya. The Moroccan MP concluded by speaking warmly of the relationship between Morocco and Libya.

“The relationship between Morocco and the brotherly Libyan people depends primarily on mutual trust, without which nothing can be done. We belong to one generation, a Maghreb and Arab generation, which made us believe in the same values and respect.”
