Rabat – The young Moroccan skier Kamil Belmrah stood out at the recently concluded 61st Nautique Masters Water Ski & Wakeboard Tournament, which took place last weekend in Callaway Gardens in the US. Belmrah won the silver medal in the men’s slalom.
Receiving an invitation to compete in the tournament is regarded as an honor and recognition of achievement for having reached the peak of a certain watersports discipline.
Belmrah, who benefited from such an invitation, managed to take advantage of the opportunity and booked his ticket to the final, beating American skier James Brian in a tie-break.
With Belmrah’s participation, Morocco became the first country in Africa and the Arab world to participate in the prestigious competition. Participation is exclusively open only to the world’s top eight junior masters and masters athletes.
Colombia’s Federico Jaramillo won the gold medal.
The event began for the first time in 1959 and is now held annually during the weekends, drawing thousands of spectators each year and receiving extensive media coverage prior to and during the competition.
The competition plays an important role in the promotion and support of new watersports disciplines.
The Masters is often regarded as the most prestigious watersports competition in the world. The event includes the elite athletes who perform spectacular stunts on glittering Robin Lake all weekend.
GM Marine Engine Technology supported the event as a “presenting supporter.”
Having confirmed his place among the world’s most promising skiers, Kamil Belmrah will now focus his attention on the European and World Championships, scheduled for next August in Madrid and Florida respectively.
