Rabat – Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Yair Lapidis scheduled to travel to Morocco for an official visit on August 11-12.
The Times of Israel quoted the foreign affairs ministry of Israel, saying that Lapid’s visit will mark the official inauguration of his country’s diplomatic mission in Morocco.
During the visit, the Israeli FM is expected to hold bilateral talks with Moroccan officials in Rabat.
The visit will take place days after Israeli airlines officially inaugurated direct flights between Morocco and Israel.
Last Sunday marked the arrival of two Israeli flights, carrying hundreds of Israeli tourists and members of the Jewish diaspora to Marrakech.
Israeli airlines will also launch flights linking Tel Aviv and Casablanca.
Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc, is also expected to launch direct flights between Tel Aviv and Casablanca later this year.
Yair Lapid confirmed his historic visit to Morocco with his scheduled visit following his statements.
Reuters said that the visit from Lapid will be followed by an officially sanctioned visit by Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita to Israel.
The news outlet said Bourita will travel to Israel to inaugurate a Moroccan diplomatic mission.
Morocco and Israel re-established ties in December 2020 and signed a joint declaration along with the US to reinforce relations.
Under the agreement, both countries agreed to boost ties at all levels, including security, agriculture, trade, and technology.
Both countries also agreed to open liaison offices to expedite the implementation of the joint declaration, aiming to strengthen ties between the nations.
