Rabat – Morocco’s Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca received today, July 23, two million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
Moulay Said Afif, a member of Morocco’s Scientific Vaccination Committee, confirmed the shipment status today.
The new bach seeks to enable Morocco to achieve its goal and secure herd immunity against COVID-19 and its various strains.
Morocco has recently extended its vaccination campaign to people aged 30 to 35.
The government, however, warned that some citizens continue to refuse to vaccinate due to different reasons.
Earlier this week, Minister of Health Khalid Ait Taleb, said that some citizens did not want to vaccinate because they were reluctant to the operation and waited to see the results of the vaccination campaign.
Others refused to engage in the vaccination campaign because of the origin and maker of the vaccine.
“Those who have not yet benefited from the vaccination must go quickly to be vaccinated in the centers closest to their place of residence,” Ait Taleb said.
Morocco experienced an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 cases recently.
In recent weeks, cases amounted to over 3,900, while over 19 deaths were reported on a daily basis.
In response to the increase in cases, Morocco decided to tighten lockdown measures starting today.
The measures will ensure that the night curfew will start at 11 p.m. until 4:30 a.m.
Morocco also banned all gatherings, including weddings.
Restaurants, cafes, and public transportation will have to operate with a 50% capacity under the new lockdown measures as well.
